How a test runs

Method

Every campaign follows the same disciplined sequence, so results are comparable across hosts, ammunition, and test dates.

  1. Setup & calibrationMicrophone array positioned per MIL-STD-1474 geometry at the muzzle and shooter's ear; every channel calibrated against a reference source before firing begins.
  2. Baseline & suppressed stringsUnsuppressed baseline and suppressed shot strings captured as full per-shot pressure waveforms — not just peak numbers.
  3. Environment loggingTemperature, pressure, and humidity recorded for the test window, so atmospheric conditions are part of the record.
  4. AnalysisPeak levels, A-weighted sound-energy fluence, suppressor reduction versus baseline, and MIL-STD-1474 hearing-hazard assessment computed from the raw waveforms.
  5. Report deliveryA complete engineering report with per-shot tables, plots, and plain-language findings.

Suppressor performance is always reported against a measured unsuppressed baseline on the same host wherever possible — the honest way to state a reduction number.

Headline acoustic metrics, suppressor peak-level reduction, and hearing-hazard findings on a single page — readable by non-specialists.

Per-shot data

Every shot tabulated at every microphone position: peak SPL, A-weighted sound-energy fluence, and shot-to-shot statistics.

Hearing-hazard analysis

MIL-STD-1474E hearing-hazard assessment computed on each recorded waveform, with allowable-exposure context.

Full test identification

Host, barrel, ammunition, environmental conditions, and equipment chain documented so the test is reproducible and defensible.
